- Coffee grounds and filters
- Tea leaves (no synthetic bags)
Food-Soiled Paper
- Paper towels
- Napkins
- Uncoated paper products
Items NOT Accepted
Plastics & Non-Organic Materials
- Plastic bags (unless certified compostable)
- Synthetic materials (rubber, polyester, acrylic)
- Candles, crayons, cosmetics, gum
Hazardous or Unsanitary Waste
- Pet or human waste
- Diapers, wipes, kitty litter
- Chemicals, medical waste, cigarettes
Problem Materials
- Grease, fats, and oils
- Large or heavily coated items (e.g., greasy pizza boxes in some programs)
Bagging & Containers
- No bag (dump directly into container).
- If using liners:
- Must be labeled “compostable” (home or industrial).
- Biodegradable plastic is NOT acceptable.
- Paper bags or uncoated paper can also be used.
- Close lids of bins securely to prevent pests and odors.
